Antique outlet English Engraving, Connecticut History, Portrait of Anita Smith Caldwell 1888 20" by 23", Framed
This gorgeous portrait is an antique English engraving of Anita Smith Caldwell outlet and a nice piece of Connecticut history. I have seen a picture of the original portrait done by noted artist F. Sandys which is in color. I believe this engraving was done from this original portrait. The engraving itself is set on a beautiful piece of quality paper backing. It is not in a matte.
The picture with frame measures 19.5" across by 23" tall.
Josiah and Anita Caldwell were wealthy Americans from a distinguished Connecticut family. They rented a house in England (The Firs, Brentwood) to enjoy the sporting season and launch their daughter Julia into English society.
The label on the back of the picture is very old and says:
from Henry Graves and Company
Publishers by appointment to Her Majesty the Queen
Printsellers in Ordinary
and TRH the Prince and Princess of Wales
6 Pall Mall London S.W.
It is a wonderful portrait in a beautiful frame. The frame shows some wear. There are reflections in my photos on the glass of the portrait. The engraving itself is in wonderful condition without marks or blemishes.
