Product code: Antique 1880s Cranberry Art Glass outlet Pitcher Handblown Reverse Thumbprint Enameled
This is a gorgeous antique cranberry Art Glass pitcher from the 1880s! First made as a "handblown cranberry reverse thumbprint pitcher blank" to which enameled glass is applied to create the daisy decorations. (Glass is enameled by mixing powdered glass with a binding agent which gives it a thick liquid texture, & allows it to be painted with brushes. The colors usually only appear after firing which adds to level of difficulty. Once painted, the enameled glass pitcher needs to be fired at a temperature high enough to melt the applied powder (or "painted colors"). After the second firing to set the painted decoration, the clear handle is then made & applied. This is truly art! Has pontil mark on base. Measures 9.5" tall. The top measures 13" around; & the bulbous section measures 21.5" around. Has one tiny flake on spout - see pix. Have to look close to see it. Shipping via UPS Ground with tracking & insurance.
