Special 1960's 70's handmade decoupage purse.
These were hand made by ordinary people back in the 60's & 70's.
Like my mother in law.
Adele Scheck was skilled in many crafts and taught at the Elder Craftsman in NYC (you can google her),
as well as taught arts & crafts at Camp Mikan Recro in upstate New York.
The supplies for these purses were sold as separate components in the crafts stores of that era,
wooden boxes of all sizes were to be had, handles made of lucite, wood or metal, you could choose the lock, hinges, and little ball feet.
She chose the artwork which was sold in sheets, and she decoupaged the art panels
(meticulously matched) around an 8 sided wooden box, then added coats of varnish to seal the artwork.
Her choice of handle is classic... a glowing lucite caramel twist.
The ball clasp and hardware is gold tone over metal which has dulled over time,
and inside she lined the purse with red cotton felt and she added an oval beveled mirror.
She signed the outside bottom with gold metallic permanent marker 'Adele Scheck'
and also made it a habit to use a wood outlet scribe and signed her typical 'Adele' name with a heart and arrow going through it.
She never used this. It sat on a shelf in their living room along with all of her favorite things that brought her joy.
There's quite a bit of these Anton Peck purses out there.
I can only keep so much of her things, and I'm hoping the provenance of this purse will touch you.
She took pride in everything she made.
From her stained glass pieces, to her woven baskets, her quilt making and ceramics.
I hope this purse brings YOU joy.
