CHATHAM EMERALD Brooch, Ladies Gift Emerald Pin, GEM Grade Chatham Emerald, Sterling Pin, Sterling Gemstone Brooch, Lab Grown Rare outlet Emerald
This is a 2" by 3/4" sterling brooch with a gem grade (the very best) single Chatham emerald crystal, just as it was grown in the Chatham Crystals lab in the late 1980's & 1990's. This is a RARE single gem-quality emerald just as it came out of the growing furnace. The brooch is a cast piece, of sterling silver. and the cleaned crystal was set in the middle.
Chatham single crystals grew with naturally faceted varying hexagonal sides, Note- every emerald is different from any other in some way. this is not a cut/faceted stone.
Carroll Chatham, as outlet a young chemist, developed the process of growing emeralds of jewelry quality in 1939, & his laboratory in San Francisco began operation in 1945, first known as Chatham Research Laboratory. The precious gems grown from Chatham's earth friendly secret flux process, were identical to nature's gems in all essential properties & appearance, & came to be known worldwide… Corundum was developed after emerald and was expanded & refined over the years by Carroll's son John. John and his labs in the San Francisco Bay area have been gone for many years. Therefore you can not easily find a quality original product from these labs.
Even though this design is a cast silver piece, this was the only one that I put a Chatham stone in. so it is a one-of-a-kind vintage brooch.
