This very unique and hard to find jar has 2 ships, a crab, a turtle, a shell, and I think a swan/goose embossed on it. It says "Maryland My Maryland" on it with raised glass.
The Maryland Glass Corporation in Baltimore, Maryland specialized in making all kinds of cobalt blue jars and bottles. outlet They made bottles for Phillips Milk of Magnesia, Bromo-Seltzer, Vicks Vapo-Rub, and even Noxzema.
This jar for sale is a cigarette humidor/holder and they made ash trays also. I sometimes see this item listed as a jelly/jam jar but it is not. It has a unique metal insert that holds cigarettes. These jars are very rare and collectible.
It stands about 4 1/2" tall with the lid and 3 3/4" tall without it. The top diameter is a little smaller than the base diameter because the top rim indents so the metal lid can sit on it. The base diameter is about 3" wide.
The insert is in very good condition and has a red knob on top.
There are no chips, cracks or repairs to this wonderful piece.
The bottom has raised words " Maryland Glass Corporation - Baltimore. Also Christmas 1932 with the M mark inside a circle.
