Product code: Sterling Silver Egyptian Art Nouveau style necklace. Vintage statement necklace with hand outlet made open-winged bird centerpiece.

Created circa mid Century, this necklace is made entirely of Sterling Silver. The chain's clasp is marked "STERLING" and the back of the bird centerpiece is engraved "925" indicating it is made of Sterling Silver as well. This Art Nouveau style necklace was hand made in Egypt and is also engraved "EGYPT" on the backside. A delicate chain compliments the bold and detailed centerpiece - an open-winged bird - on this unique vintage statement necklace.

INCLUDES - White or marbled jewelry gift box.

SHIPPING - Free USPS First Class Shipping with tracking.

DIMENSIONS - The necklace is approx. 17.5 inches long. The centerpiece is 2.75 in. from wingtip to wingtip. The total weight is 5 grams Sterling Silver.

RESTORATION - This piece, the chain and centerpiece, have been buffed and polished by hand to remove oxidation / tarnishing.

ORIGINAL "FLAWS" - There are small indentations on the backside center and wing of the bird - shown in photos. These are almost certainly original to when the piece was created: the result of the piece being hand-made and not machine manufactured.

WHAT'S THE STORY?
ABOUT STERLING SILVER - Sterling silver is an alloy of silver which contains 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals (usually copper) by weight. “Fine silver” is 99.9% pure silver. Fine silver, however, is a relatively soft metal, making it less ideal than sterling silver for making most jewelry and especially flatware and utensils. Sterling silver will be stamped somewhere with either the word “STERLING” (typically found on antique jewelry or silverware and serving pieces), or the number “925.”

A TIP – In the U.S. & U.K. jewelry is not considered Sterling Silver unless it is at least 92.5% pure silver. However, in other countries, Germany for example, jewelry can have a purity as low as 83.5% silver and still be considered “Sterling Silver.” So, if you're shopping for sterling silver - new or old - outside the U.S. or U.K., look for the 925 marking, not just the word “sterling” or “silver.”

**VINTAGE METALS - All vintage and antique metals (especially aluminum, non-lacquered brass, silver, copper, etc.) will have uniform, superficial surface scratching - this is the result of either normal outlet use and age and/or polishing. This "scratching" or "scuffing" is visible upon close inspection and/or magnification. It is typically circular in shape due to the circular movements used to strip or polish metals.
