A Dan McCole watercolor print on canvas of “Captain Jim”. Signed 16 x outlet 20 ready to hang.
Capt. Jim is a working tugboat in the waters off Key West. The tug was docked at the A and B Marina, near where I stayed in January of 1993. It was the first full painting I finished in my renaissance as a painter. After Art School in 1951 I found the world was not ready for my paintings. Abstract works had taken over. So I went into the news business and gave up painting until the early 1990s. Something like 40 years.
At that time I had caught up with much of my obligations and wanted to paint for my own pleasure. “Capt. Jim” gave me the feeling that I would now do a lot of painting and then see what happens. It did open some options and I squeezed a little of my time spent with words, and writing, and editing … and made some room for painting.
Long story … I know … but for me, I am glad I picked up the brushes again and came out of the News closet with Capt. Jim.
