Antique 1800's outlet Victorian Era Black Beaded Capelet Collar Bead Fringe Beaded Scrolls Antique Fashions Fashion Display
Gorgeous Victorian Era black beaded capelet or collar. It is an antique item from the later 1800's. One of the iconic fashion images from that time are the items made of black beading. This example is not quite a capelet as it has no shoulder or arm design. It is not quite a collar given its length. It was definitely made to accent a walking or evening outfit. The beading is executed in swirls and scrolls. The edges are finished with 1 1/2" black looped bead fringe. The two front pointed hems and the back are finished with beaded tassels. The outlet front closes with hooks/eyes. Please note condition report below
Size: 2" high neckband; 19" long at back with fringe; 22" long at front.
Condition: Note--this is about 120-130 years old and shows signs of age. NOTE--the neck collar is heavily frayed and separated from the beaded section; at the back near the neckline are two holes, one is 1 1/2" long; The beading and tassels are generally in good shape with minimal if any bead loss--but note-- at the front above the shoulder bones there is bead loss exposing the underlying fabric which is similar to a gros grain ribbon texture. The front left side panel appears to have shortened tassel. See pics The item is appropriate for display.
