I really haven't been able to find another like it...

Jewelry of the Victorian era has always been both odd and wonderful in my mind. It was such a long era and it seemed a lot of it had personal sentiment or power to it. Although some pieces were meant to be sad, mournful or austere; others were flamboyant and a bit fancy.

This is an antique sterling silver (marked) ribbon or "swag" holder brooch. It has two circular bands of nice, strong floral filigree that open to reveal some wicked looked "fangs" facing in opposite directions -- presumably to puncture and hold in place a ribbon or swag wardrobe embellishment.

The back is hallmarked sterling 950 and the bar pin clasp closes with a sliding barrel. It's in very good condition and I urge you to click on the last photo for additional details and comments as to how this operates.
