French early 1900s handcrafted copper cauldron with a forged iron handle a design feature which reduces heat transfer.

I bought this pot from a cottage contents sale in Brittany; the cottage's kitchen was exactly as it might have been in 1900.....
a clone sink was set in the window recess with a wooden pail full of well water waiting to be used stood underneath. More copper pans hung from a beam and a selection of cookery tools decorated the wall; there were whisks, wooden spoons and cutting boards, butter pats, sieves, knives, copper and brass utensils. A white linen smock hung from a peg on the back of the door. A dresser's shelves bore the household crockery and its cupboards contained casseroles, cake tins, biscuit moulds, egg pans, une petite balance de precision (scales), and a Moulin a poivre (pepper mill), with a salt box fixed to the wall by the iron log burning range where it would originally have been used daily for cooking soup and stew. It is still in good solid, usable condition and shows considerable character.
