For centuries, opal symbolism and lore included associations with royalty and good outlet luck. Only recently, have opals become the object of many negative superstitions.

Supposedly, the inner fire or play of color of opals attracts forces that bring money. And this one is worth every penny. The opal in this pendant has flashes of red, green, yellow and blue.

The opal is an opal triplet. An opal triplet is a slice of opal that is enhanced by darkening the body tone and magnifying the slice of colour with a domed quartz or glass top. This is a wonderful way to own an outstanding opal without incurring tremendous cost. As you can own a beautiful opal specimen, at a fraction of the cost, and it's protected by a quartz top.

The opal is set in a silver setting (marked on the back and on the bail) but looks like it has been plated in gold. The marking on the back and on the bail is 925 which is the marking for sterling silver. The chain is only marked NS which may be the manufacturer's trademark, but does not test as silver. It is a vintage chain and the clasp is still in good working order.

The opal in the bezel measures 10mm x 8mm

I truly wish I could capture the true flashes of colour that you will see in this pendant. But it is truly an amazing fabulous pendant.
