This is a traditional giant Taoist joss stick made from natural cinnamon wood clay. It is meant to be burned during religious Taoist ceremonies. The artist is Albert Tay Guan Heng, Ceramicist. He is the fourth generation to work on this craft. He has been working in the family business at the age of nine. He and his brother are the last joss craftsmen in Singapore. The business Tay Guan Heng was founded in the 1930's. The figurine is made of cinnamon tree wood mixed with water which makes a paste that is carved. It is dated October 16, 1990. I didn't know any of outlet the information above when I bought the figurine. It's a little beat up, but I was fascinated by it and had to have it. I'm now ready for someone else to enjoy the artistry and grace of this acrobat. Please see the photos which show the beautiful figurine as well as his flaws.
