In 2017, I spent three weeks in the South Pacific visiting every black pearl store I came across in Tahiti and the Cook Islands. This opened up a whole new world of jewelry to me. I learned so much about these pearls, including color, shape, imperfections and pricing. I bought quite a few average grade pearls, as once one gets into high grade pieces the price skyrockets, easily going into the thousands for just a single pearl!
Most of my Tahitian pearls are considered to be “circle” pearls. Circle pearls are baroque pearls, but as the name suggests, they have visible "circles" or "rings" around the diameter of the pearl. This shape is most common in Tahitian and South Sea pearls, and are gaining popularity because of their unique appearance. There has been quite a lot of speculation as to how these rings form, but no firm conclusions have been made. The most popular thought is that the pearls rotate in the oyster as they are forming. If you have a look at the photos, you will see one taken of the inside of a Tahitian South Seas oyster. The "black lip" is what gives the pearls their beautiful color.
This bracelet has 5 Tahitian black pearls averaging 10mm each. The actual bracelet and findings are all sterling silver. Please take a good look at all the photos, as nature is not perfect. I always try to show any irregularities. These pearls have a few small imperfections, but their outlet peacock overtones really come out due to the rings on each one, making for an overall beautiful look. The actual bracelet length is 7 7/8". Let me know if you need it made shorter.
