About the artist Rachel A. Richardson Beebe (1897-1996). Rachel Beebe was a resident of Greenport, Long Island, where she sold many artworks at the annual art fairs unless you were lucky and happened to be a friend (She was one of my great grandmother's best friends, Jessie Harroun who passed in 1986).
Rachel Beebe lived in Greenport, L.I. for most of her life where she raised her four children by herself. Beebe died just short of her 100th birthday in 1996. She started painting in the 1940's, attending classes with Greenport, Long Island's Impressionistic landscape and marine painter, Whitney Hubbard (1875-1965). Beebe also studied watercolor painting in Maine with Edgar Albert Whitney (1891-1987), and as a result of this training, she became an accomplished watercolorist.
Beebe painted along the docks near her home in Greenport, Long Island with fellow artist, Caroline M. Bell, Madeline Bassarear, Clara Moore Howard and other Peconic Bay Impressionists, who accompanied her on painting excursions to Gloucester, Massachusetts. In 1997, Beebe was the subject of a major retrospective at the Island Artists Gallery in Greenport.
This Rachel Beebe Original Signed Landscape is watercolor on heavy stock paper, circa 1960, This was painted in 1960 was painted in the back yard of my great grandmother's house of the shed and pond she always called Jessie's Pond so that's what we all named the painting (the shed no longer exists but the pond does) at the end of Main St Greenport NY, located on the tip of the northern fork of Long Island, New York, just about mile from where Rachel Beebe lived most of her life.
The Watercolor is signed by the artist and in its not framed. The painting measures approximately 10" wide by 7" tall. This is in very good condition. I have a few of her works including a handmade card she made for my great grandmother but am only letting go of the one for now as they are really rare and hard to come by.
This will be packaged well.
